Living sustainably have changed Bibek’s life. InspiringStory
After writing dozens of articles on sustainable living, Climate Change and Gardening, I felt I should write an article of my experience on how I started to live a sustainable life, If it would inspire only a handful of you than the mission to write this article would be successful. Let’s begin.
A True Life Experience
My Previous Life Routine
The day started off just like any other, with me going through the motions without really thinking. I quickly grabbed a latte at starbucks to give me a boost of energy, but it didn’t really satisfy me. It left me feeling empty and unsatisfied. Later, I made an impulse purchase at the store, a shiny new gadget like VR that caught my eye. At first, it felt exciting, but soon enough, I felt guilty for spending money on something I didn’t really need.
I lived this lifestyle for 15 Years, These mindless purchases and shortcuts I took in life felt like I was betraying myself and slowly eroding my sense of well-being. It was a never-ending cycle that left me feeling dissatisfied. However, of all of this, a small voice inside me started to grow louder. It was urging me to break free from this destructive pattern and find a better way to live and that push I got on 5th June 2018.
A New Start on June 5th
It was Sunday, My college friend Josh called me to hangout. In the way to Josh I saw people gathering like a small get together party, My friends parking was at that particular side, I went crossing those people and I was eager to know what they were doing ( They were doing some presentation ) After parking the car, I went and asked a person standing and looking their work,
Hey ” What’s this about “
The Stranger ” Awwh This is something about living below your means, Conserving nature etc. ”
While were having some conversation the volunteer there called us if we would like to join, The stranger didn’t join but I did because I was curious.
Now, I will share how things changed.
A Wake up call changed my life
As I joined those people They made me feel comfortable and I started listening to them. After 1 Hour of talks and discussion I returned home, I got some hints of being mindful. Still I was not sure what exactly was that..
I connected with those people on Facebook , I got inspired while seeing their posts and contents they used to share. While seeing their posts like Community Gardening, Hiking, Cycling To Work, Going To Thrift Store, I somehow felt disturbed every time I see their post. As I needed money for my tuition fees, There was a subconscious decision I guess I also started keep track of my expenses, Whenever I had the urge to buy something exciting I used to see their post and that helped. The numbers I saved were a wake-up call, showing me the true consequences of my thoughtless decisions.
Although I still felt the dopamine to buy unnecessary things, a little voice inside me started suggesting alternatives – like going for a walk in the park instead of mindlessly shopping, cooking a nutritious meal at home, or even fixing a worn-out shirt instead of buying a new one. These small changes, driven by my newfound awareness, gave me a sense of control and empowerment. Slowly, the guilt started to fade away and I started living more consciously and happily.
STARTED TO TAKE DECISIONS CONSCIOUSLY
I started by focusing on buying local and organic fruits and vegetables at the market. The market was a lively place, filled with vibrant colors and friendly faces, which was a refreshing change from the cold and impersonal supermarket aisles.
I also made the switch to using reusable bags instead of disposable ones, and with each conscious choice I made, it felt like a small victory. Not only did this shift in mindset bring a sense of control and purpose to my life, but it also alleviated some of the financial burden I had previously felt.
The environment, which used to be something I only vaguely worried about, suddenly became a tangible reality. Every mindful purchase I made felt like a vote for a healthier planet. The satisfaction I felt from these changes was much deeper and more fulfilling than the temporary happiness I used to get from mindlessly consuming things.
Community Helped me a lot
As you know, I didn’t walk alone on my journey. I became a part of that community garden where the joyous laughter and strong bond among us were as fulfilling as the fresh vegetables we cultivated together. We exchanged gardening tips, zero waste tips, pooled our resources, and cheered for each other’s accomplishments. Carpooling was a regular practice, not only to save money but also to bond and form lasting friendships.
As a united group, our individual contributions were magnified by the combined strength of our shared goals.
Broad Perspective
Being aware of my actions and decisions wasn’t limited to just what I did externally; it involved a complete change from within. Instead of mindlessly scrolling through social media, I found solace and tranquility in meditation sessions, which brought me a sense of inner peace and clarity. Slowly I started to engage in yoga that not only strengthened my physical body but also nurtured my mental well-being, with the connection to my breath serving as a grounding force.
Following sustainable practices became second nature to me, as they were not just passing trends but rather reflections of values that I developed. By adopting mindful spending habits and making responsible investments, I was able to cultivate financial stability. As a result, I felt complete and balanced, actively participating in a harmonious ecosystem rather than merely being a consumer who destroys it, Every time he consumes.
I connected with the nature
While I was exploring lifestyle that was completely new to me, I couldn’t hang on to previous type of conversations with my close friends as my thoughts and perspective were slowly changing. After my work I started volunteering with community people, Doing surveys and stuff.
I liked the environment so much with those friendly and happy peoples, My mental health began to improve. I became more social person. I am still actively involved in community programs, This lifestyle has made me conscious and a wiser person.
Building a Legacy Lifestyle for my generations
I have involved my wife and my kids to this lifestyle. I feel wiser to say that the decisions I take now, the effects they have, will be the tales that shape the future. Each thoughtful purchase, every effort towards conservation, every advocacy for sustainability is like planting a seed for a more sustainable future.
It all started with a small spark of consciousness, and now, it has grown into a powerful movement, a harmonious melody of transformation that will increase with the time. Learn more about legacy lifestyle.
Conclusion
Now I feel, That young guy of 22, Where all his friends were having fun, Clubbing, Racing, Following Trends. That guy choose to be worthy for the nature & thought to be grateful. I thank the community “Tosby Tomorrow” for what they have done to me. Specially Aliana (My Best Friend from community garden) who believed in me at the beginning & pushed me every time I felt unworthy and unsatisfied with this lifestyle.
I have changed my pattern of living and this website We Care Earth is a result of that. I want to inspire thousands of people and make them believe, We can live a sustainable life and help the mother nature to sustain while being mentally and physically happy – satisfied.
